BJ COLE – news and dates

BJ is currently working with Neil Wilkes remastering a 5.1.version of GENE CLARK’s seminal 1974 album ‘No Other’for future release on 4AD. This month he’s recorded tracks with Embasan produced by COURTNEY MARIE ANDREWS with (whom he played a session last year on BBC2’s Later with Jools Holland…see below). In early April he will be recording tracks in Wales for a forthcoming album by the legendary guitarist MICHAEL CHAPMAN. Later that month he will be playing some UK dates with PETER BRUNTNELL.

BJ’s back in the studio working on a record of Hawaiian flavoured music; he has teamed up with Dave Eastoe, a master of the slack key style of guitar playing, and is busy writing and recording in a style that takes the Pedal Steel back to it’s Hawaiian roots, and him to the beginnings of his career in music.

Last April BJ accompanied Phoenix based songwriter COURTNEY MARIE ANDREWS on 2 tracks featured on ‘Later’ with Jools Holland

2016….BJ won the ‘Instrumentalist of the Year’ award at the 2 UK Americana Music Association Awards held in London.
– BJ played a run of dates in Norway with Hsrdanger Fiddle player Sigrid Moldestad.
– Earlier in October he also played a set with Emily Burridge on ‘cello at the guitar festival near Zagreb in Croatia.
– In October he also joined contemporary music ensemble Icebreaker on stage for their arrangement of the live world premiere of Scott Walker’s ‘Epizootics’ at London’s Barbican (he also played on the original recording with Scott)
– During the summer BJ played with Robin Hitchcock at the Maverick Festival.
May he and Emily Burridge on ‘cello were top support to Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita at Kings Place London
In May he played A UK tour with Michael Chapman (celebrating MC’s 75th birthday/50 years on the road).
BJ played live and took a central musical rĂ´le in the run of the musical production of ‘The Romford Rose’ a new theatrical piece written by ‘Sweeney Todd’ playwright Christopher Bond. In October
